When days are cold and grey, I like to go, or at least plan of going, to the Winter Garden of Helsinki. It’s a place where the climate is warm and it’s green throughout the four seasons, a perfect place to escape the snow and re-energize. Last winter, I thought it would be so wonderful to hold a jewelry exhibition in the garden. I told this idea to my friend Meira Rauta, who’s also a keen visitor of the garden, and she was right away into it.
Fast forward half year: We will exhibit our jewelry in ‘Leaves & Love’ exhibition, an official program of Helsinki Design Week 2019! You are more than welcome to visit on September 11-15th, at Hammarskjöldintie 1 A, Helsinki, near the Töölö bay. The exhibition will be opened during the opening hours of the garden and the entrance is free :)
September 11-15 2019, at Hammarskjöldintie 1 A, 00250, Helsinki, Finland. Free entrance.
‘Leaves & Love’ & Jewelry
Why ‘Leaves & Love’ you might ask. I appreciate simplicity in everything, and yes I love writing poems but I wanted the message of the exhibition is straightforward. The ‘Leaves’ represent the plants and the garden, the endless inspirations for our work, while the ‘Love’ shows the connection with the garden, our love to jewelry making, as well as the awareness towards the environment as jewelry artists.
In this exhibition we will display different jewelry made with different techniques: handmade by traditional metalsmithing and metal clay handsculpting, to 3D printing. We will use different materials like silver, copper, ceramic as well as recycled materials.
Helsinki Design Week 2019
Helsinki Design Week is the largest design festival in the Nordic countries. Whether you are a design professional or enthusiast, throughout the week you can explore and take part in events that are related to fashion, architecture and urban culture. The festival events are spread throughout the city, on the obvious venues such as museums, to the unexpected ones like… the Winter Garden! It’s surely a unique and fun way to explore Helsinki!
This year, Helsinki Design Week’s theme is ‘Learning Climate’, which resonates strongly with ‘Leaves & Love’. As written on their website ‘it’s about new ways of creating encounters and experiences in a sustainable way, and take lessons from designers who work by looking far into the future’. As a jewelry artist, I become more and more aware about my choices and approaches in working, for example in fabricating methods. I hope to share more about this in a next post.
The Winter Garden of Helsinki
There has never been a jewelry exhibition in the Winter Garden of Helsinki (or maybe even any gardens in the world?) so you can tell we are Super excited about this. If you live in Helsinki or you’re planning to visit, mark your calendar for September 11-15 2019 to visit ‘Leaves & Love’ exhibition and enjoy the garden!
Inside the Winter Garden: Green, green, and green all seasons.
The Winter Garden is a tranquil place and it’s always so nice to see everyone having a wonderful time strolling between the luscious plants, having picnics or even do some work!
A lovely place to relax or work. We look forward to exhibit our jewelry in the Winter Garden!
