I collect cabochons, and this year I decided to join the cabochon jewelry challenge on Facebook group, initiated by the amazing metal clay jewelry artist and enamelist Joy Funnel. So the idea is simple, to create a cabochon jewelry per month. I though this would be great since I’d have reasons to make several pieces out of my collection.
Little that I (or anyone) knew that February the world started to change. The situation affected my work rhythm as well, with less time spent at my studio. Although I can do some things at home, when at the studio I prioritize things that I have to do.
In short, my cabochon jewelry creation rate is currently at a piece per two months :D Here I show some that I’ve made till the middle of the year.
I have a lot of fossil coral cabochon, so I knew I wanted to start with a fossil coral. The piece is inspired by the ocean, the waves to be precise. The fossil coral was once a living coral in the sea, deep under the waves. I also decorated the surface with sea-inspired patterns.
I had been having an idea for these sweet flowers for a while. So, despite having a lot of cabochons waiting, I made my own cabochons using polymer clay :D The Daises rotate on their center, so they look slightly different every time.
And here I’m back to the fossil coral again :) I adore the tiny flower pattern on this cabochon, and to highlight them, I created the base with similar shape and decorated it with a similar flower pattern.
Hope you enjoy my post!
