Jewelry, Painting, and the Months Ahead

Welcome, autumn! After what felt like an endlessly extended summer, the air is finally turning crisp and the days are growing shorter. I’m taking a moment to look back on the summer and share what’s coming next.

Between visits to parks in Helsinki, where I did my best to soak up the summer light and vibes, I spent much of my time creating a series of jewelry art. In March, I entered Aqua Ambra Aquila 2026 International Jewelry Competition. I also took part in the previous edition, in 2024, where my work ‘I.Sea.You’ received first place. The theme of this year was ‘Beneath the Surface’ and I submitted my proposal, as required, in a digital pdf. About a month after the submission, the first selection result was announced and my work ‘Beneath the Beneath the Beneath’ was selected as one of the ten finalists. From there, I had a couple of months to bring the design into reality.

I’ve worked combining silver clay and glass many times, but I knew this time the piece I designed would push my technical skills. And it did: this was one of the most challenging pieces I’ve created, this piece was certainly taking the scenic route!

I’m delighted that the finished piece is now on display at Kruunu Museo in Espoo. The exhibition opening was wonderful, I really enjoyed meeting fellow artists and visitors, and discussing all the works on display.

Aqua Ambra Aquila 2026 jewelry exhibition runs until March 2027. If you love jewelry art and are in the area, I’d definitely recommend stopping by to explore the finalists’ work. The exhibition creates a beautiful atmosphere, with its sound and displays, and offers visitors plenty to see and learn as it transports them to the mesmerizing world of the ocean.

Since September, I’ve also been sharing more content of my painting practice on my YouTube channel. A few years ago, I began creating tiny watercolor paintings for my jewelry, and now I’m developing that work further. I share my creative process alongside some gentle reflections. To be honest, the reflections are very much reminders to myself, so I’d be happy if perhaps anyone find them useful. Please visit the channel and subscribe if you’d like to follow along.

To sum up, the rest of the year will be filled with making new work including for an open studio this winter, teaching workshops, creating content for my channel, and preparing for next year’s exhibitions. Watch this space! I’m excited to bring you along as each element takes shape. Here’s to a season of inspiration, learning, and making. Happy autumn!
