Spring & Summer Projects

Summer is coming soon, hello warmer weather and longer days! It’s such a joy to paint in natural light late into the evening. I started the season with my first plein air session at a local park. I brought a small sketchbook and a larger sheet of paper, and, somehow, left my big brushes at home! I painted with a water pen brush and had to skip the bigger paper, though I did give it a go. A few days later, when I returned, the plants in the park had changed. Some blossoms were gone and new ones were emerging. I’m glad I’d captured a bit of the earlier moment in my sketchbook. When I look at that little sketch I remember the warm sunlight, the air, and the breeze of the moment. No matter how long the winter lasts, spring and summer will come.

Floral Watercolor Painting Project
I’m currently continuing my floral postcard painting project, adding a new set that follows the previous collection. It’s a complex, slow process with lots of tiny detail work, all done in-between other task. I can share a sneak peek here and would like to post more process images and results, I’m still deciding where it’s best to start a new social page to share my images online.

From my studio: a sneak peek at my watercolor floral painting project.

Art Jewelry Creation
I entered Aqua Ambra Aquila International Jewelry Competition again this year. The contest is organized by The Finnish Goldsmiths’ Association, Museo Kruunu and the Finnish Jewellery Art Association, in collaboration with Tavast Goldsmith Tools. As written on the contest official page, the aim is to explore the message the sea conveys to us and interpret it in the form of jewelry. They are looking for new, contemporary applications through the means of jewelry with special emphasis will be placed on sustainable development thinking, and the use of recycled and ethically produced materials.

The competition consists of two stages. In the first stage, the design phase, participants present their
plans as images. The theme this year is ‘Beneath the Surface’ which sparked some exciting ideas and I put an idea together into the proposal. Now the results of the first stage are out, and I’m a finalist! I’m very thankful and now it’s time to bring the proposal to life and create the piece I planned. As per requirement in the contest, I can only reveal the work after the official final result, which will be in a couple of months. Excited for the studio time ahead! Thank you for reading, until next time!
