My piece ‘Sweet Moments’ was awarded a Semi Grand Prix at Silver Accessories Contest 2021! :) I’m humbled and grateful <3 The theme for the contest was ‘Inspiration’, and my jewelry was inspired by activities I’ve been embracing at home in the past year, which took form in candies!
For example, the blue candy was inspired by ‘Words’, as I’ve been doing more reading and writing.
And the green one is about ‘nourishment’, nourish the body and the mind… Keeping up with the healthy lifestyle, getting that fresh energy, being organized, always looking at the bright side…
Every element including each tiny dot and line in my piece was handmade from scratch, without any commercially available molds, stamps or templates. The material I use, Art Clay Silver, is made with 100% recycled silver, manufactured by Aida Chemical Industries Co.,Ltd., a recycling company specialized in recycling and refining precious metals since 1963.
To study the candy ‘anatomy’, I had one candy accompanying me along the whole process. I wanted to get the construction, as well as the spirit of a candy, and then translate these all into my jewelry. 
Sketching is always essential. I did a lot of sketches and during the implementation, the planned sketches could change a bit or much, until the piece is fired. In between all these steps, having some sweets naturally belonged to the process :D
After firing and polishing, I applied colors on the candies using resin and pigments. I custom mixed most of the colors.
At my studio I have a jar filled with candies, including those from ‘Penkkarit’, a fun tradition in Finland for more than a hundred years, where the final year high school students share candies to everyone. These colorful candies are just like lovely memories in a jar.
My ‘Sweet Moments’ represents simple, little moments at home and around, as well as delightful memories which I can always embrace to bring good vibes.
